Description

Product Overview

A shaving brush with a turned wooden handle in the classic barber shape. Wood gives a brush weight and balance that plastic does not, and it sits in the hand comfortably through a slow shave.

Why Use a Brush

  • It lifts the beard hair away from the skin so the blade meets each hair side-on. That is the main reason a brush shave is closer and more comfortable.
  • It works lather down to the skin rather than leaving it on top of the hair.
  • It exfoliates gently, which helps against ingrown hairs.
  • It is the only way to use a shaving soap, and soap gives a better cushion than anything from a can.

How to Build a Lather

  1. Soak the brush in warm water for a minute, then shake out the excess.
  2. Load it by swirling on the soap for 20 to 30 seconds, or take a small amount of cream.
  3. Whip it in a bowl or on your face, adding water a few drops at a time until it is glossy and holds a peak.
  4. Paint it onto the beard in circles.

Thin, bubbly lather means too much water too fast.

Looking After a Wooden Handle

Wood is the one part of this brush that needs attention, and neglect is what ruins them:

  • Rinse the bristles thoroughly after every use, but keep the handle out of standing water.
  • Wipe the handle dry and stand or hang the brush bristle-down so water drains away from the wood rather than into it.
  • Never leave it sitting in a puddle on a shelf. Water soaking into the base is what splits and warps a wooden handle.
  • Do not store it wet in a closed bag.
  • Never use hot water on it.

Hygiene

  • Do not share razors, blades or trimmer heads. They break the skin, and anything that breaks skin can pass on infection.
  • Rinse and dry a razor after every use and stand it somewhere it can air. A wet blade in a closed bathroom cabinet blunts and grows bacteria.
  • Clean a trimmer head between users if it is shared inside a household.
  • Do not shave over a spot, a mole or broken skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wood or resin handle?

Wood looks and feels better and has more weight. Resin survives being left wet, which wood does not. If you are careless about drying, buy resin.

Can I use it with canned foam?

You can, but foam is already lathered. A brush is for soap or cream.

Will it shed bristles?

A few in the first week is normal for any new brush. Continuous shedding after that is a fault — tell us.
