Description

Product Overview

A nasal aspirator from Applebear for clearing mucus from a baby’s nose. The tip is soft silicone, comfortable at the nostril, and the whole device washes and is reused. Safe for newborns and children from 0+, with no chemicals involved.

Babies breathe mainly through the nose and cannot clear it themselves. A blockage that is a mild nuisance to an adult stops a baby feeding and wrecks their sleep, so clearing it is often the most useful thing you can do for an unsettled infant with a cold.

Key Benefits

  • Clears mucus so the baby can breathe normally
  • Better feeding and better sleep with a clear nose
  • Soft silicone tip, comfortable and gentle
  • Safe from newborn onwards
  • Washable and reusable — no chemicals, no consumables

Key Features

  • Nasal aspirator / nose cleaning device
  • Soft silicone tip
  • Safe for 0+ and newborns
  • Washable and reusable
  • 1 piece

How to Use

  1. Soften thick mucus first with a drop of saline in each nostril, and wait a minute. This does most of the work.
  2. Hold the baby upright, or lay them back with the head slightly raised.
  3. Rest the tip at the opening of the nostril — never push it inside.
  4. Apply gentle suction. Stop if the baby is distressed.
  5. Wipe the tip and repeat on the other side.
  6. Use before feeds and before sleep, and no more than a few times a day.

Cleaning and Sterilising

  • Wash in warm soapy water before first use and after every use, then rinse thoroughly.
  • Sterilise by the method your equipment supports — steam steriliser, cold-water sterilising solution, or five minutes in boiling water. Check the item is boil-safe first.
  • Let it air-dry on a clean surface rather than rubbing it with a tea towel.
  • Store somewhere clean and dry, not loose in a nappy bag.
  • Replace anything cracked, split, discoloured or chewed through. Damaged surfaces hold bacteria and can break off.

When It Is Not Enough

An aspirator eases a symptom; it does not treat anything. Get medical advice if the baby is under three months and has a fever, is breathing fast or working hard to breathe, is drawing in below the ribs, is refusing feeds, or has fewer wet nappies than usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far into the nose does the tip go?

Not in at all — it rests at the opening. Inserting it risks damaging the lining and causing nosebleeds.

How often can I use it?

A few times a day at most. Over-suctioning swells the nasal lining and makes the blockage worse.

What age is it suitable for?

Where the manufacturer states an age range it is given in the specifications above. If none is stated, take a paediatrician’s advice for a newborn rather than assuming.

Can it be shared between children?

No. One per child, sterilised between uses.
