How to Wash Hair Properly

  1. Wet the hair thoroughly first. Shampoo on half-wet hair does not spread and does not lather.
  2. Put the shampoo on the scalp, not on the length. The scalp is where the oil and dirt are; the ends get cleaned by the suds running down and that is enough.
  3. Massage with the pads of the fingers, never the nails, for a minute or so.
  4. Rinse until the water runs completely clear. Under-rinsing leaves residue that dulls hair and irritates the scalp.
  5. A second, shorter lather if the hair was oiled or heavily product-laden. Otherwise one is enough.
  6. Condition the mid-lengths and ends only, then rinse in cool water.

Shampoo and Conditioner — Which Matters More

A useful thing to know when you are deciding what to spend on. A shampoo is on the hair for a minute and then rinsed away; a conditioner is designed to leave something behind. If you buy one half of a matched pair, the conditioner will make the bigger visible difference — the shampoo’s job is mainly to clean without undoing it.

That said, the pairing is not marketing invention. A shampoo and conditioner from the same range are formulated to sit at compatible pH and to leave hair in the state the other expects, and they do work well together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it sulfate-free?

The seller has not stated the ingredient list. Message the shop if this matters to you and we will read the bottle in stock.

Can I use it daily?

Yes for oily scalps. Dry or coloured hair usually does better with two or three washes a week.

Will it suit my hair type?

Most shampoos suit most hair. The differences that matter are how strongly it cleans and how much it conditions: fine or oily hair wants a lighter wash, dry or coarse hair wants a richer one. Coloured and chemically treated hair does best with sulfate-free.

How should I store it?

Somewhere cool and dry with the cap closed. A shelf away from the shower spray is better than one in it — constant heat and steam shorten the life of any formula.
